Artist Statement

My work primarily deals with place and space within the picture plane. My perspectives are those learned from the landscape of deep space on the prairies of North Dakota. I spent hours doing summer fallow and looking at the distant hills while riding the tractor. That spiritual process has followed me into my art. The use of space has carried over into several mediums that I've experimented with during my career.

I prefer mixing mediums, using "real" art material with cast-off materials such as wire, nails, cardboard, etc. This practice follows the collage tradition of using material from the living culture. It also acknowledges my rural heritage by re-creating and re-cycling.
